Like a couple o’ gilded porkers, their snouts rooting in the damp leaves, Ezio and Ben sniff out some spectacular sonic truffles for your groaning table.
Prepare for the sound of sound itself; selected with a master’s experience, creaking like ancient mosaic tiles.
Stray voices glitter through the hard blue sky, a piano diddles in the staccato forever, tape-crackle dusts the flexible speech streams with meaning. A heart-breaking shanty (language incomprehensible to my cloth ears) leads a jailhouse harmonica into static electric champagne.
Yet this is somehow also a rich and loamy offering. The essence of Piermattei & Presto’s sound is well-rotted, mulched; an entanglement of textures in varying states of deliberate decay. The occasional fresh nugget (the atmospheric organ drone, the motorbike cough of a clearing throat) that slices through only adding to the essential fatty marbling that further sizzles your ears.
Like the careful un-folding of Luc Ferrari’s brittle ghost. In terrible times this is a timely reminder of what it means to be truly alive.

"When walking along the beach you sometimes come across sea foam all washed up and spumy. It is a solid, yet it if you poke it with a stick it is soft and pliable. This is how Ezio Piermattei and Ben Presto’s ‘The Balsamic Doctrine’ feels to me.... full of creaking sounds and bubbling motifs.
'The Balsamic Doctrine’ is a mesmeric album that is filled with rich layered samples that demand regular plays"

"...they make a most exquisite timbre.... Synths and organs moan, narcoleptics have rousing dialogues with themselves, unidentifiable objects clatter/clang and the occasional show tune warms the heart and stirs the loins."
